Eye examinations are an important part of health maintenance for everyone. Adults should have their eyes tested to keep their prescriptions current and to check for early signs of eye disease.
Children's eye exams
The American Optometric Association recommends a first eye exam at 6 months of age, another at age three, and again at the start of school, then every two years until age 18.
Contact lens fittings
Contact lenses must be fitted by an eye care practitioner, who writes the prescription for the size, shape, power and brand. A fitting is painless and can be done alongside a regular eye exam.
